Kaminey (translation: Scoundrels) is a 2009 Bollywood film directed by Vishal Bhardwaj featuring Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in the lead roles. Bhardwaj co-authored the screenplay to a script he bought for $4000 from a Nairobi writer that he mentored at a script writing workshop in Uganda. The film was produced by Ronnie Screwvala of UTV Motion Pictures.
Guddu and Charlie (Shahid Kapoor) are identical twins who have grown in the rugged streets of Mumbai. Both brothers have a speech impediment whereas Charlie is a lisp, while Guddu stutters in his speech The film begins with a voice over narration by Charlie, who describes how he and his brother could never meet eye to eye, and Charlie's belief in taking shortcuts to fulfill his dream- to become a bookie at a horse racing course, where he currently works for three Bengali brothers in fixing races. He is especially close with the youngest of the three brothers, Mikhail (Chandan Roy Sanyal), whom he considers to be even closer than his own biological brother. Charlie however, gets done in his quest to hit the big time when he bets Rs. 1 lakh on a horse during a fixed race, only to be double crossed by the jockey, losing all his savings in the process. He hunts down the jockey and threatens him into revealing the person who has lured him into betraying Charlie and the three Bengali brothers. The name is revealed- Francis.
Guddu meanwhile works for a NGO in the city, currently working raising AIDS awareness on the streets. He soon discovers that his girlfriend Sweety (Priyanka Chopra) is pregnant with their child. While the couple have an argument about how to deal with the unplanned pregnancy, Sweety reveals that she is the younger sister of Sunil Shekhar Bhope (Amol Gupte), a rugged local politician, and urges Guddu to marry her, as it would be the only way he could avoid a price being placed on his head by Bhope. Guddu and Sweety hastily marry, but are confronted by Bhope's men right after the matrimony. When Bhope discovers Guddu's full name, his aides realize a bigger trouble is at hands, Guddu is a migrant from the Uttar Pradesh state. Having a migrant brother-in-law would definitely dent Bhope's Maharashtra for Maharashtrans agenda, and eventually costing his election ticket. The price on Guddu's head is now inevitable. Sweety however fights off Bhope's men and both flee away, with Sweety having previously booked ticket flights to Kathmandu so that they could start life anew there.
Charlie meanwhile has tracked down Francis at a posh hotel in the city and craving to get his revenge. He refuses to heed to his boss' orders to leave the hotel after delivering information of Francis' whereabouts, instead goes for that kill himself. In a separate track however in a different room at the same hotel, two corrupt cops kill three drug dealers and collect a guitar case containing Rs. 10 Crore worth of cocaine, to be delivered to drug lord Tashi (Tenzing Nima). Charlie and his aide invade Francis' hotel room, and start seizing his belongings and beating him up to make up for the lost money when Francis' aide returns to hand over Francis a gun, which sparks off a gang crossfire all the way to the parking lot, where the two cops are now placing the guitar case in their van. Charlie and both of his aides seize the van in order to escape from Francis' men, and soon after realize that they have seized a police vehicle. Charlie drives it to a remote place in order to abandon the van without trace when he discovers the contents of the guitar case.Thinking of this as the shortcut that will lead to his dreams, he steals the guitar case. The cops soon track down the van but once they discover that the guitar case is missing, Charlie's head is on for the hunt. Charlie informs Mikhail about the discovered drugs and both of them take joy at the money they would earn from the deal, but as Charlie goes back in order to retrieve the case for Mikhail, Bhope and his men sit waiting inside, with Bhope looking for Charlie to reveal Guddu's whereabouts. A drunk Mikhail interupts their conversation, and for all the talk, he is murdered by Bhope.
Guddu and Sweety meanwhile have a nasty argument after Guddu realizes that Sweety had not only faked her identity, but also her own stammering in order to get close to Guddu. Both leave each other, and after being spotted by the cops at a petrol bunk, he is mistaken for Charlie and is arrested. He is assaulted by the cops who refuse to believe that he is Charlie's twin brother until a phone call arrives on Guddu's mobile, with the call coming from Charlie's number, where Bhope is on the line. The crooked cops and Bhope strike an exchange deal- Charlie in exchange for Guddu and Sweety.
Guddu and Sweety are brought back to Bhope's house, where Bhope reveals that a local builder will pay him Rs.5 crores if he marries Sweety off to the builder's son, and he needs the money for the election. Guddu, remembering that the whole fracas is about the guitar case containing Rs. 10 crores worth of drugs, bargains with Bhope- Guddu will get Sweety if Guddu retains the guitar case for Bhope. Bhope sends Guddu and his men to retain the guitar case from Charlie's house.
Charlie is assaulted by the two cops who are desperate to find out about the guitar case, or else Tashi will be going after their heads. Realizing that they are in as much trouble as he himself is in, Charlie refuses to barge. However, in a freak accident, one of the cops accidentally shoots himself in the thigh, and Charlie uses the distraction and pick up a gun and make both cops his hostages, where he bargains a deal with Tashi- the guitar case for a payment of Rs.10 lakhs. He sends the injured cop and his aide to Tashi to deliver the details of the exchange, and heads back to his house to retrieve the guitar. Guddu arrives there with Bhope's men, totally unaware that Bhope has delivered instructions to kill Guddu once the guitar case is found.
Guddu and Charlie both meet in an abandoned house, and start fighting over the guitar case. Guddu manages to get a hold of the case, but Charlie threatens to shoot him should Guddu proceed. Guddu however asks Charlie to stop blaming himself regarding their father's death, implying that its none of their fault that their father committed suicide. Realizing that he has to finally choose the right path and be responsible for their lives, Charlie lets Guddu leave. However, Bhope's men are all found murdered when Guddu returns to the house, as the elder Bengali brothers, upon discovering the death of Mikhail, have gone on a killing rampage to avenge their brother's death.
While walking back, Guddu is held up by police, and after revealing the story, Guddu is asked to be a police informer while delivering the drugs to Bhope so that the cops could catch Bhope red-handed. Guddu returns and finds that Sweety, who has discovered about Bhope's orders to kill Guddu, has gone beserk and is shooting at will with fury over her brother's actions. Tashi too arrives at the scene after being informed by Charlie about where the drug is heading to. The fracas in escalated when the cops show up and round up on the criminals. Bhope starts negotiating with the cops so that the deal goes ahead, as Tashi, indentifying Guddu as the rat, holds Guddu at hostage at gun point to prevent the cops from opening fire.
In the middle of the chaos, Charlie arrives and sneaks with the guitar case. Moving to the veranda of a nearby house, he threatens to drop the case in the fire and burn the cocaine if Tashi doesn't let Guddu and Sweety go. He asks Guddu and Sweety to go on the run, and soon after, the Bengali brothers arrive with Mikhail's body in their jeep. Enraged at seeing his friend's dead body, Charlie drops the cocaine into the fire; which spells the beginning of a violent climax where the cops, Tashi and his men, and Bhope and his men, and the Bengali brothers, all open fire on each other, resulting in a flurry of dead bodies.Guddu returns to the virtual war zone to help Charlie out, and is saved by a policeman. Charlie runs into Sweety and safeguards her in a home before returning to find Guddu, when he sees two diamonds in the hands of a dead Tashi. Reminding himself to choose the right path, he ignores the diamonds but gets shot by an African drug dealer who was in Tashi's gang.
The film ends by showing Sweety giving birth to twins as a grinning Guddu receives. Charlie was only shot in the hand and survives, and he manages to finally open up his bookie counter at the course, using his friend Mikhail's name for the booth. An elegant woman named Sophia, who features in Charlie's dream at the beginning of the movie, is now his girlfriend.

Synopsis:
Life Partner is a comedy based on the institution of marriage. The film is about three close friends, each one having a different perspective about marriage. Govinda plays a divorce lawyer in the film who doesn't believe in marriage and is a Casanova of sorts. Fardeen Khan plays a character for whom being in love matters most and Genelia D'Souza plays his love interest. Tusshar Kapoor plays a Gujarati who believes in the system of arranged marriage and Prachi Desai plays his Gujarati wife.
Life Partner is ultra sweet and that is the bottom line. If you're looking for a film to sit back and relax on a Sunday afternoon, this is your best bet. The dialogues written by the director Rumi Jaffrey are spontaneous and humorous - especially the ones that Govinda juts out in his own style. The director has captured South Africa beautifully and incorporated the beautiful landscapes correctly into the film. As a director, he scores with a film that works because marriage is such a popular idea and topic to debate; especially now because of the "quick divorce" schemes that seem to be making the rounds. However, the climax is a real big "blah" to the otherwise funny film. Clearly Rumi was trying a tad bit too hard, which was really not required and instead should have kept his steady momentum going.
Acting wise, all the actors have come out with performances they could easily be proud of. Govinda is his funny-self as the lawyer who has the most amazing one-liners and expressions to match it. No one else could have pulled off the part of Jeet like Govinda and he fits into a tailor-made role like magic. Another head-turner is Fardeen Khan. The actor has really evolved. Not only does he look so-so good but has totally played the part of the ambitious husband. Tusshar Kapoor as the typical Gujarati boy who doesn't take a step without mummy and papa's permission is clean and charming. Genelia D'Souza is hilarious and some times over the top. Prachi Desai is a good find although she did look a bit uncomfortable with Tusshar in a few scenes. Anupam Kher is apt.
Anil Kapoor Productions’ Shortkut – The Con is On releases today. The movie is a remake of Malyalam film, ‘Udayananu Thanam’ and written by Anees Bazmee, who is famous for churning out good comedies. It is directed by Neeraj Vora, who too is popular for making worthy comedies. But both fall flat with this comic caper titled, ‘Shortkut – The Con is On’. The movie appears lackluster. Why? It’s because the timing is not right. It should have been release a couple of years back because the remakes used to work big some years ago. Today remakes hardly run at the box office. People love to go for original concepts. Shortkut – The Con is On relies on cliches, which in turn make you burst into a big yawn.
The basic plot of the film is undoubtedly attractive but as soon as the story develops, it starts losing the attarction. Wonder, the creative men are behind the story/screenplay and direction nonetheless they made it poorly. Guess, they have taken the viewers for granted. But why the filmmakers and writers forget that today’s viewer is intelligent and has sense of understading. Although it has been targeted as comedy but by the time when you come out of the theater, you start thinking that it is a tragedy rather than a comedy.
First half of the movie is nevertheless appealing and gets you glued to the screen but the post interval portion is what makes you simply bored. You want to leave the hall. Writing looks childish. The climax is simply unbearable. After seeing it, you begin to think that the script has been written by some amateur writer, who does not know who to pen screen writing!
The direction is simply mundane. Neeraj disppaoints completely. Where are your talents – Mr. Neeraj Vora (director) and Mr. Anees Bazmee (writer)? The films sell on your names and you made such a dull flick this time around. The cinemotography is good. Music has nothing special to hum it around.
Akshaye Khanna does a fine job. Arshad Warsi portrays what the viewers want him to do. Amrita Rao displays her body freely and as an actress goes well with the role. Ali Asgar is okay. Rest of the cast is average.
On the whole, Shortkut – The Con is On is a poor comedy and should be avoided.

Perfect Mismatch review:
The story of Perfect Mismatch is about Mr. Patel and Mr. Bhalla. Both have problems with each other since one is Gujrati and the other is Punjabi. The movie is based on the matter of the marriage happened outside the community. Many of these types of films have been made on Bollywood screens but today these ilk of movies simply look outdated.
The story has no grip at all. Nothing is novel in the screenplay. ‘Perfect Mismatch’ is simply Imperfect, an amateurish effort to bring the mundane saga on the celluloid.
Aman (Anubhav Anand) is an architect. He bumps into Neha (Nandana Sen). Love happens between the two. But the flame oozes out when the families of the two meet each other. The differences emerge between Mr. Bhalla (Anupam Kher) and Mr. Patel (Boman Irani). Disapprovals for this relationship of Aman and Neha gushes out from the warring fathers but the lovebirds try to find some way to bring them together.
Nothing is there to rave about the film. The differences between the two fathers look so flimsy. The efforts of the lovers to bring the warring fathers together are not convincing at all. In today’s world, the lovers will not sob and enter into a shell if the parents are against their love rather they will make all efforts to get a solution. In this flick, the lovers (like a yesteryear’s stories of this kind) put all on their fates and become inactive spectators all through. Absolutely weird!
Ajmal Zaheer Ahmad’s direction is simply mundane and has no value at all. And his writing (script) too falls flat badly. All the other departments fail to register impacts also.
Anupam Kher does fine. Boman Irani is great. Anubhav Anand is okay. Nandana Sen does average job.
On the whole, ‘Perfect Mismatch’ should be avoided. It has nothing to praise about.

"Luck" Review:
Sanjay Dutt, Imran Khan and Shruti Hassan starrer much awaited action thriller, ‘Luck’ finally hits the screens today. Made utterly on the lines of Hollywood action thriller, the film is laced with hardcore action sequences that will surely make you bite your nails. The action in this movie is what gets you glued to the screen till the end. This type of superb action, though is being made in films, was last seen in Yash Raj banner’s ‘Dhoom 2’. A stylishly made film, ‘Luck’ has a brilliant concept to deliver on the celluloid.
The flick is undoubtedly laced with loads of thrills but does not claim to be high on story. The screenplay is not watertight. Had the writers – Soham Shah and Rensil D’ Silva worked very carefully on the script, the result would have been superb on the lines of narrative. But the due credit goes to director Soham Shah for executing the thrills on the canvas in that manner that appeals to every genre of the movie going audience. So it’s now crystal clear that ‘Luck’ works big on the star power and the stylized thrills.
The film talks about the mafia lichpin Musa (Sanjay Dutt). He has just one obsession and that is to revolutionize the betting industry. Musa thinks that life is a gamble and what better way to skew the odds than play with those with luck on their side. He takes the game of betting to an altogether different level by involving humans as betting objects who are made to fight their own luck to survive. Every year his trusted aide Tamang (Danny) assembles for him in South Africa, 20 participants handpicked from across the globe who have a proven record of extreme luck. Through Musa’s syndicate, betters from around the world put their money on these humans. During the new season, the participants, who are roped in to this, are: Ram (Imran Khan) – a white collar job young guy, who wants to earn big amount to compensate the huge fraud his father was the reason for that – Ayesha (Shruti Hassan) has her own agenda for money – Retd. Col Singh (Mithun Chakraborty), who needs the money desperately for his better half’s operation – Shortcut (Chitrashi), who is a Pakistani camel racer girl and wants to buy a Lexus and Rghav (Ravi Kishan), who is a serial murderer. What heppens when these participants are put into the extremely dangerous life taking game of luck? Who wins amongst them is what forms the rest of the movie.
With the start of the film, the cinegoer is dragged into the world where the bets are put on humans and death-defying stunts are taken place. The train scene in the beginning is the one, which has hardly been witnessed on the canvas of the Hindi films before. You have watched many reality shows, where the participants play the games of death. But the ones, which have been done in this film, seem more dangerous than the reality shows. The sequence of revolver, the jump from the helicopter, the underwater scene with the sharks and the train scene in the climax – are the sequences, which will remain in your memory. The audiences will certainly be clapping on these scenes.
Now come to the flaws of the film. The biggest one is undoubtedly the writing portion, which is feeble. The romantic track has not been given due care, so it appears flabby. The climax should have been winded up when Ram wins the jackpot since it was his utter goal. So why confronts Musa after the wins the game? It appears simply weird. If there was some personal score to settle with Musa, then the sense makes clear otherwise it seems completely senseless. The hospital scene too does not make any sense to the viewers. Shruti’s double role too makes you think, as to what was the need behind?
On the whole, ‘Luck’ will work big time at the box office due to its novel concept, the thrills of international standards, the stylish look and the star power.

"8x10 Tasveer" Movie Review:
Indian directors would make something like that. Well, Nagesh Kukunoor just did that! 8X10 Tasveer is what you wished for. But then, that could also be the weak link of the movie.
To start with, this is a story of Jai Puri (Akshay Kumar) who works for wildlife conservation and wants to stay away from his dad’s capitalist business. He is gifted with a psychic ability to look into the past of a person’s life through any photograph of that person. However, there is a catch – doing that endangers his own life. Jai’s father dies of heart attack and he suspects foul play. Hence, he undertakes a journey to find out how his father was killed. To his help he has a photograph, which was taken minutes before his father’s death, and he has a private detective Happi (Javed Jaafery).
Nagesh weaves in chilling suspense into the circumstances with a great screenplay. He is helped by good background music and excellent cinematography. The dialogues are just about human and very day to day, making the film real even during unreal situations. He also uses special effects well in the narration.
There is a problem though. No convincing explanation is given as to why the murderer kills so many people. There is some background shown, but that does not seem ground enough to kill people.
The film completely belongs to Akshay Kumar. He delivers something unseen from him before. When the actor had told in a recent interview that Nagesh didn’t allow him to do what he usually does, we should have got the hint. 8X10 Tasveer is a rare occasion when Akshay underplays his character. And while you think Ayesha Takia would have nothing to do, she delivers a punch too with a solid role. The scene stealer here is, however, Javed Jaafery who perfects his Hyderabadi accent and OCD to clean anything on sight. The rest of the cast fall in well.
Overall, 8X10 Tasveer is simple, subtle, smart and sleek. Nagesh Kukunoor does well in restricting any kind of melodrama that usually creeps into regular Indian movies. The movie easily shows his capability to handle the genre after handling emotional dramas well in his previous movies. But as pointed out in the very first paragraph, this could very well be the pitfall of the movie. Extremely non-Bollywood treatment may alienate this film from the masses. But people who are exposed to Hollywood at a greater level will lap this as one good suspense thriller.
